Growing White Plains

Elementary Schoolers | Middle Schoolers | High Schoolers | Young Adults

A community agriculture project through which volunteers from White Plains and surrounding communities grow vegetables and herbs to be donated to the Ecumenical Emergency Food Pantry and other organizations helping to meet the food needs of residents of the City in need. Participants also learn about organic gardening and share healthy outdoor activity with friends and family.

Days /Times and Locations where program is offered

Program operates during the garden growing season, from February through November at two community garden sites, on the grounds of New York Presbyterian Hospital near the Bryant Ave. gate, and at the Bethel Community Garden, corner of Prospect St. and Sterling Ave. There is also a greenhouse located behind the Ebersole Ice Rink.

To participate, register as a member of Growing White Plains by filling out a brief registration form and adding your name and e-mail address to the distribution list so we can let you know when garden activities take place. Volunteers are free to visit or work in the garden at any time it is convenient for them.

Does this program charge fees and if yes, how much?

There is no charge for participation in Growing White Plains

What are the qualifications/ requirements for participants - if any?

A willing hand and heart. Registration for the program by filling out a brief registration form

Are participants paid a salary/ wage?

No. This is a volunteer program. Participation is voluntary.

At this time applications for this program are available only at the Youth Bureau.

After School Connection

Welcome to the After School Connection Program (ASC). The ASC is just one of many youth development programs developed and offered to the residents of White Plains by the City of White Plains Youth Bureau. The Youth Bureau is able to offer quality after school programming to over four hundred students a day in the White Plains community. Our After School program offers a safe, quality, school-age child care youth development program for working parents/ guardians that provides opportunities and experiences that stimulate a child’s intellectual, social, physical and emotional development. We strive to create a warm, supportive and friendly environment where children are able to develop friendships with their peers and positive relationships with caring adults. The ASC is meant to be a place where children can follow their own interests and choose among a variety of stimulating activities, under the guidance of adult staff, within a secure and familiar environment.

REQUIREMENTS for CHILD CARE SUBSIDY FORMS
Please be advised that ALL parents are required to submit September’s fee to secure a spot in the Before & After School Program. This policy applies to both returning and new parents. You must submit your new childcare provider form along with your registration forms and fee.

We will accept forms from the following agencies:

Westchester County DSS Child Care Subsidy
Childcare Council of Westchester, Inc.
Local 100-MTA Childcare Fund

There is a 72-hour turnaround time to process all forms. We will contact the parent once the forms are ready for pick up to deliver to your subsidy agency. Once we receive the letter of approval from the caseworker, we will process the September refund.

What are the qualifications/ requirements for participants - if any?

Family must reside in White Plains. Must complete a registration form, and provide an up to date copy of child’s immunization record and physical exam at time of registration.

To apply for scholarship, must furnish copy of most recent year’s federal 1040 tax form.

AFTER & BEFORE SCHOOL 2026-2027 DROP BOX INSTRUCTIONS

Dear Parents/Guardian:

We will continue to utilize our After & Before School Program Drop Box located in the front entrance of the Youth Bureau between the hours of 9 am to 8 pm, Summer hours 9 am to 5 pm. This box is located to the left of the door and will be labeled Before & After School Dropbox.

When submitting your completed registration forms, please ensure that all pages are completely filled out, dated and signed. You must also submit a copy of your child’s physical AND immunization record. If you are applying for the scholarship, please submit a copy of the first two pages of your Federal 1040/2023 Tax Form.

FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED VIA EMAIL OR VIA FAX.

Please be advised that Youth Bureau staff will no longer make the copies for you. Supporting documents MUST be submitted with your registration form(s)
