My Brother’s Keeper 2nd Annual Readers Achievers Program

The City of White Plains My Brother’s Keeper Initiative held its second Annual Summer Readers Achievers Program July 2nd thru Friday, August 10, 2018. Working in concert with the White Plains Library and area camp programs, the Readers Achievers Program is designed to increase the number of children and teens participating in summer reading programs. More than 300 children and youth participated in last year’s Readers Achievers Program. Frank Williams, Jr., Youth Bureau Director and Co-chairman of the White Plains My Brother’s Keeper said that he was “looking forward to this year’s program. Children who read during the summer see improved language skills and are better prepared for the rigors of school when school starts in September.”

The My Brother’s Keeper initiative was launched by President Barack Obama, February 2014 to improve the lifelong outcomes of boys and young men of color. Since 2014, more 250 cities across the nation have accepted the My Brother’s Keeper initiative.
